BATTLEFIELD #1

- A collage of struggle and love choreographed for the theatre.

Teater Rio Rose’s BATTLEFIELD series typifies how Teater Rio Rose encompasses the visually beautifuland humane in its performances. In fragmented and yet easily recognizable ways, stories of love and conflict are told on several levels.

In BATTLEFIELD # 1 we are invited to observe a man and a woman´s relationship. In BATTLEFIELD # 2 we meet two women, in # 3, two men, and in # 4 an old couple. Through these four versions the prejudices felt by many heterosexuals towards same sex couples, and by young people towards the elderly, are reneged.

By framing each of the couples in the exact same performance, the intimacy, conflicts and comic situations we all recognize as simply human, are experienced  no matter what the couple’s constellation might be.

In 2008 BATTLEFIELD # 1 was nominated for the prestigious Reumert Award in the category named “This Year’s Great Little Performance”. The committee motivated the nomination with these words:

“With BATTLEFIELD The Rio Rose Theatre has created a powerful little performance, which took its point of departure in the small and large conflicts of everyday life. As an audience we were drawn into a poetic, gruesome and touching universe, which created associations of both our own personal conflicts and the harsh situations we hear about from the hotspots of the world.”
