When artist RAMO TEDER makes music he becomes Pastacas. PASTACAS is the moniker of Estonian artist Ramo Teder. Originally from Viljandi, Estonia he's an artist who mainly works as a musician, rarely getting mixed up with someone else. Though living in Finland already for a while, he is doubtlessly one of the most original and interesting Estonian musicians - a figure who cannot be put into one certain genre and who himself doesn't consider any borders holding good in music. Being Pastacas already more than 15 years, he experiments with voice, instruments, electronics as well as with himself.
"Pastakas" means "ball-point pen" in English, and Ramo likes to use this little instrument in his paintings and drawings.
PASTACAS has released music since early 2000s. In 2001 he started to record music influenced by UK label’s Warp, and got a review in UK music magazine “Wire” where his 2004 electronic album 'Tsaca Tsap' was described as 'remarkably charming and creative'.
I've always told that in the beginning of 21st century, Pastacas was folktronics, a mix of acoustic music and electronics. Although the original folktronics was remarkably more electronic than my music is. It was a wave back then. Today I'm telling to everybody that Pastacas is eclecticism.
By now Pastacas has moved on and developed his own unique blend of experimental folk-pop which he creates using with looper, different guitars, mandoline, hiiu kannel, flute, block flutes and his own voice. Currently residing in Finland, he has toured several times in Europe and also Japan (incl with japanese alt.folk duo Tenniscoats) where his records have been released by Afterhours label. In 2013 Pastacas and Tenniscoats released a collaboration album 'Yaki-Läki'. Pastacas has also written music for film and theater both in Estonia and Finland. In 2016 he released another album 'Pohlad'.
