The heartbeats of the streets in Viljandi Old Town are in direct connection with the soundscapes created by Profile. Tranquility, the void and organicity are three main aspects bestowing inspiration. Just as with brothers and sisters, whose mutual relationships may be utterly complicated, yet the word of their love and togetherness still prevails. Using minimum measures in gaining maximum impact is not the sole purpose, it however creates a firm foothold for the course of a certain Weltanschauung.

As a kid, he used to make camp under the Estonia Grand Piano of his childhood house. He enjoyed knocking on its wooden body. Mid ‘00s saw the smalltown kid return to these organic knocks and clips via his music production. When asked about influences Profile remains humble, saying he gets inspired by his surroundings. Just like in a post-apocalyptic city, there aren’t many people in Viljandi – even cats are rare to come by. Feeling oft like the whole place is to yourself and your close friends you start breathing and pulsating in the same rhythm with the environment. While there are snappier and more concrete 4/4 house tracks on his early works out on Processed, then the core of his work follows more subtle, organic trails. Dance music, nevertheless, it demands an intimate setting. His vinyl-only DJ-sets are an experience for people who are religous about music - the kind you find in Berlin’s underground techno joints or Eastern-European forest festivals.

Profile: "Integrity and simplicity are the two characteristics that my creative work is based on. I try to achieve the maximum with minimal means, but the result doesn’t always have to be orderly and polished...that is why I believe that there is no such thing as perfection and the ideal that goes with it. The world and the massive globalization process surrounding it has, in my opinion, blinded the humans and we are starting to forget our main values, where we come from and where we are, in relation to our ancestors...that is why I have used in my creative work the ideas of Estonian folk instruments and musicians, the direct roots of which go back more than two thousand years."

Since putting out first records on Estonian-based Processed imprint, he was picked up by Monsieur Cedric of London-based vinyl-only imprint Série limitée. A steady flow of releases continued with Vienna’s Leap Records who put out his first solo 12” EP. Inbetween Profile caught the ears of Russian labels Chevengur Melody and Simple Things with a few digital releases. “Move” EP on subscription-based Cut was picked up by XLR8R:

A six-minute expedition into dense techno territory which builds in slow, hypnotic steps, eventually burying its deep and spacious bassline beneath wide-spread layers of shuffling hats and celestial pads. – James Eaton

Viljandi vanalinna tänavate südametuksed on otseses seoses Profile´i loodavate helimaastikega. Vaikus, tühjus ja orgaanilisus on kolm põhilist inspiratsiooni talletavat punkti. Justkui õed-vennad, kellevahelised suhted võivad olla keerulisemast keerulisemad, kuid armastuse ja kokkuhoiuinstinkti sõna jääb lõpuks ikkagi peale! Minimaalsete vahendite kasutamine, maksimaalse tulemuse saavutamiseks pole küll ainueesmärk, kuid loob siiski tugeva jalgealuse teatud maailmavaatelise suuna osas.
