Since 2007, French artist PERRINE EN MORCEAUX has been developing the possibility of an «experimental pop». After two self-produced albums evolving on the side of electro-concrete minimalism, she comes back on the all-female avant-garde label Lentonia Records (Paris) with RIEN (LP/CD, 2016) released in March, 41 minutes of uninterrupted savage and engaged songs.
RIEN invites to leave our usual ears behind, to accept that time tumbles, that melodies and ideas jump unexpectedly, that songs melt into one another into a weird Kraut-Pop solo Opera.
" Perrine reminds us of everything we love about Nico, Throbbing Gristle, and Bjork without sounding like anyone but herself " (New Los Angeles)
The experimental dimension of the music _i.e. segmented compositions, asynchronized loops mixing digital beats and concrete noises, abrupt rhythmical jumps, celtic melodies_ shall not be sufficient to describe the hybrid quality of the record which gets more and more structured and binary over the course of the album up to extremely efficient pop numbers. No doubt that RIEN is 'something' : a D-I-Y and maximalist solo show which submits the present time to the test of song-making, and not the other way around.
PERRINE EN MORCEAUX is a French artist whose practice ranges from music and song-writing to performance, visual arts, pedagogy and theory. Since 2007, her hardpop project Perrine en morceaux, has been touring all around Europe and gave birth to three albums. She's been developing different practices of what she calls "theory art" with a speculative lecture-concert "Be as it may" on Kazimir Malevich meant to become an album and a book, or with the project of a philosophy children's book. She co-organizes and is based in Performing Arts Forum (PAF, St-Erme, France).
