using a set of warm-up exercises we will rediscover the alignment of the body and activate the area around the sacrum. We will stimulate an inner flow of energy that enables the execution of all subsequent movement. through choreographed structures we will place an external geometry inside the performer’s body and explore a deep investigation in presence and intentionality. we will explore the diverse colors of highly stylized movements and the simplicity of quotidian gestures. through improvisation we will strip away the need to show, to present and to perform so that the body can exist not only formally but energetically. our goal is to search for moments of vulnerability within the performer’s body and to investigate the fundamental difficulties and paradoxes of the act of performing.

elke luyten, originally from belgium, currently lives and works in new york city. in 2010, luyten re-performed several of abramović’s pieces at the exhibition “marina abramović: the artist is present” at the MoMA. she is performing in a work by robert wilson called “the life and death of marina abramović”, which has toured internationally since 2011. luyten’s own work has been presented by the REDCAT in los angeles, the kyoto university of art and design, hooyong performing art centre in south korea, dance new amsterdam and the kitchen in new york and others. in november 2012, luyten created a “sculptural dance making” for the opening of the new parrish art museum in water mill, ny. her most recent collaboration with kira alker is called death drive and was performed as part of the dance in process series at the kitchen this past june. in july 2013 the new york times discussed luyten’s work as being part of an evening of dance that was “one of the most fascinating programs of the year”… “it was a game-changer. it felt like a new beginning.” in addition this evening was included in time out new york's list of the best dance of 2013. currently she is working as the artist advisor at the watermill center and she curates the international summer fellowship program at the stiftung insel hombroich in germany.
